The Great Awakening

Powerful One Act Is Well Done

Richard Marsh Dearborn Press And Guide June 1999

This year's entry in Henry Ford Community College's New Playwright's Workshop, "The Great Awakening, " is one of those plays that needs to be written and produced. The poignant script by Shawna Farley, who also directed, deals with incest and its affect on people who recover from it. Opening last Thursday, the cast presented Farley's deeply moving and often disturbing story with great effectiveness. The intimacy of the black-box staging with the audience seated on stage sometimes inches away from the action added significantly to the impact.
