One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

HFCC Show Strong In All Senses

Richard Marsh Dearborn Press and Guide December 1987

Director George Popovich opted to be daring with Henry Ford Community College's production of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," last weekend, going for a surrealistic presentation of the play, and it paid off. The result was a powerful production. Dale Wasserman (show playwright) and Ken Kesey (author of the book) would have been proud. The show was not light entertainment: rather, it was heavy drama as well as theater at its best. Of course, Popovich did not pull off this feat of outstanding theater alone. Strong acting by the entire troupe gave the show the necessary punch.

Innovation Brings Praise For College Theatre Director

Sandra Pastuzka The News Herald July 1988

Dr. George Popovich's innovative use of theatrical expressionism earned his group of Henry Ford Community College acting students a performance berth at the American College Theatre Festival in Indiana. Henry Ford's production of the drama, which tells of life in an insane asylum, was one of 11 selected to be presented at the annual event, which honors college theatre work.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

George Popovich will direct this 25 year-old classic. The play was chosen not only because it is based upon one of the best novels of the century, but also because it will help balance HFCC's theatre season. "We're going to get away from all the comedy we've done in the past," Popovich said. "we don't want to be labeled as a college that is known only for comedy, or only for drama."
